Intergenerational Program at Kendal on Hudson

The most recent intergenerational program at Kendal on Hudson was a Memoir Study with residents and 3rd – 5th grade English Arts Enrichment students from the Washington Irving School in Tarrytown. The project had 60 students and a number of residents participating. The students met with residents to listen to some of their memories, such as going to school during an earlier time; what was it like to be part of the Women’s Movement in the 1960’s and 1970’s; what it was like to be part of the early movie making industry in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Students, parents and teachers came to Kendal one evening this past February where students presented their projects and spoke eloquently on the selected stories. Participating residents tell us they benefitted as much as the children.
