Jan. 21, 2021 (Sleepy Hollow, New York)— CVS pharmacists inoculated 263 Kendal on Hudson residents with the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 19 and 20. In clinics held at the Life Plan Community on Dec. 23 and Jan. 13, all residents of Clearwater, Kendal’s skilled nursing neighborhood, along with 95 staff were also vaccinated. Some of this group have had the recommended two doses of Pfizer vaccine.
“Getting the vaccine to residents and staff has been a smooth and seamless process because of our partnership with CVS pharmacists, and it has been deeply appreciated by our residents. They see the vaccine as a hopeful step toward a post-pandemic world,” said Kendal on Hudson CEO/Executive Director Pamela Klapproth.
Registration for vaccinations and administration of the vaccine went like clockwork. Kendal on Hudson staff arranged appointments for hundreds of residents and staff wanting the vaccine. Forms were sent in advance, and clinic staff took care of screening while residents waited in a safely distanced line. Staff and CVS pharmacists worked closely together to ensure the vaccination clinics went off without a hitch.
“Throughout the pandemic, we have provided detailed communications to residents and staff about adhering to safety guidelines and what is happening in our community and the surrounding area,” Klapproth said. “We have focused on education about all aspects of the disease and the measures we can take as individuals and as a community to minimize exposure to the coronavirus.”
Kendal on Hudson’s Medical Director, Dr. Syna Kandarappallil, recently recorded a video to encourage residents and staff to get vaccinated.
“The coronavirus vaccine does not give you COVID-19,” Dr. Kandarappallil emphasized. “It gives your body the tools in order to boost antibodies, or protection, against coronavirus in the future. So, if you were … to catch coronavirus in the future, your chance of having the very severe type of COVID that lands you in the ICU, that makes you critically ill, is substantially decreased [by] 94 or 95%.”
Additional clinics to administer second doses of the Pfizer vaccine are slated for Feb. 9 and 10.
