Lifelong
Learning
Kendal residents value
opportunities for lifelong learning. A fully functioning library with a wide selection of reading, audio and visual materials and access to area library systems, is a hub of the community.
Since Kendal on Hudson opened in 2005, the Education Committee, through local colleges and universities, has sponsored an array of on-site courses, including: "Greek Mythology", History of Opera", "Birds and Birding", "AARP Safe Driving", " Art History", "The American Revolution", "The Iliad", "Short Stories", "The American Presidency", and "History of Modern China."
In addition, the Monday Night Lecture series includes presentations by Kendal residents, their relatives and friends, Westchester leaders with special knowledge about various cultural and natural features of the County, local politicians who represent the community at various levels of government, and others with expertise or experiences that generate an interesting program.
Many residents audit courses on university campuses or give their time to tutor and mentor students and non-English speaking residents of the community.
Numerous language and book clubs are flourishing, and an open forum is held every Friday afternoon in which residents get together informally to discuss important national and international issues.
Boredom is not a word found in the typical Kendal resident's lexicon. Lifelong learning is alive and well at Kendal.
