The
Fitness Coordinator must assess each participant prior to use of the
Fitness Center. The assessment provides the information needed to design
a personalized exercise prescription, using the American
College of Sports Medicine guidelines. Some of the parameters include: posture, balance, flexibility, endurance, agility, resting heart rate, blood pressure, body mass index, arm, leg and core strength. This assessment provides valuable baseline information as well as monitoring changes in fitness levels over time.
The Fitness Coordinator says of the assessment
process, "We are having a lot of fun with it. The residents are amazed
at what they are learning about themselves as I explain the results
to them. It is a fun, quick, user-friendly assessment, and at the
same time very thorough and professional."
