Directions to Kendal on Hudson

Kendal on Hudson is located in Westchester County, 20 miles north of New York City, at the western end of Route 117. It is situated on the Hudson River, four miles north of the Tappan Zee Bridge on Route 9 in Sleepy Hollow.

From Manhattan's east side:

  • Take FDR Drive to Major Deegan which becomes the New York State Thruway (Route 87N).
  • After the Yonkers toll, take Exit 7A, the Saw Mill River Parkway, and continue to the Hawthorne interchange.
  • Exit right for Taconic State Parkway, via a long ramp which goes over the Saw Mill River Parkway.
  • Stay right to the first exit, Rt. 117 - Sleepy Hollow/Pleasantville.
  • At the end of the ramp, turn left at the traffic light onto Route 117.
  • Continue west 3 miles; follow the sign that says "Rockwood Road Keep Left" - don't take the Ossining exit.
  • Shortly you will pass a sign for Phelps Hospital and New York Life. Continue straight ahead , passing a sign on the right for "Rockwood Hall Area", and bear left . You will see a small Kendal sign and the drive continuing between high stone banks. Proceed to a fork in the drive and bear left to the main entrance.

From Manhattan's west side:

  • Take West Side Highway, which becomes Henry Hudson Parkway and then Saw Mill River Parkway.
  • Continue to the Hawthorne interchange.
  • Exit right for Taconic State Parkway, via a long ramp which goes over the Saw Mill River Parkway.
  • Stay right to the first exit, Rt. 117 - Sleepy Hollow/Pleasantville.
  • At the end of the ramp, turn left at the traffic light onto Route 117.
  • Continue west 3 miles; follow the sign that says "Rockwood Road Keep Left" - don't take the Ossining exit.
  • Shortly you will pass a sign for Phelps Hospital and New York Life. Continue straight ahead, passing a sign on the right for "Rockwood Hall Area", and bear left. From New Jersey, Rockland, and other points west:

  • Cross the Tappan Zee Bridge.
  • Take the first exit, Route 9.
  • Make a right at the end of the ramp onto Route 9 North.
  • About 4 miles north, pass the entrance to Phelps Hospital and continue to the exit for Rockwood Road, on the right.
  • Shortly you will pass a sign for Phelps Hospital and New York Life. Continue straight ahead , passing a sign on the right for "Rockwood Hall Area", and bear left . You will see a small Kendal sign and the drive continuing between the high stone banks. Proceed to a fork in the drive and bear left to the main entrance.

Traveling west from White Plains or Connecticut:

  • Take the Cross Westchester Expressway (287 West) to Exit 3, the Sprain Brook Parkway North.
  • Take the Sprain, which becomes the Taconic State Parkway (follow the signs towards Albany).
  • Take the first exit off the Taconic, Pleasantville-Route 117.
  • At the end of the ramp, turn left at the traffic light onto Route 117.
  • Continue west 3 miles; the road will become Rockwood Road.
  • Shortly you will pass a sign for Phelps Hospital and New York Life. Continue straight ahead , passing a sign on the right for "Rockwood Hall Area", and bear left. You will see a small Kendal sign and the drive continuing between the high stone banks. Proceed to a fork in the drive and bear left to the main entrance.
